Uganda, while enjoying an equatorial climate, is strongly influenced by its elevated altitude. On average, the temperature across large areas of the country is about 26°C. However, in the southwestern region, the temperature can drop to 5°C, and in the north and northeast, it can reach 35°C. Much of the country receives an average annual rainfall of 1,000 mm, while the northeast and Ssese Islands record approximately 500 mm and 2,000 mm annually. As a result, Uganda is lush and verdant throughout most of the year!
The Jinja Municipality is on the northern shore of Lake Victoria and the eastern shores of the Victoria Nile. It is at this very spot that the River Nile originates from Lake Victoria at the erstwhile Rippon Falls. The town, situated approximately 1,230 metres (3,750 feet) above sea level, and covering an area of almost 28 square kilometres, is shaped like a tapering plateau.
Jinja Town Centre is situated 45 km north of the Equator, and enjoys an agreeable climate with Jinja temperatures averaging between 20ºC and 28ºC. The rainfall in this region is close to 112.5 centimetres. (Rainy seasons are March - May, and then October -November).
